  • Thanks for that reply, I’ll give that exercise a go. I wasn’t sure which was the weak one as when I’m scissoring with my right foot behind it feels like I’m putting my weight on it so the left foot rides over stuff. What you say makes sense though! …
  • Thanks. I needed to rotate wheels anyway, and the 45degree strap was too long, so I’ve set that to be further back, and changed the cuff position from bottom to top to see how that feels. I’ve got back ache from garden stuff so it might be a few day…
  • I’ve been wearing my watch halfway up my forearm above the Triple8 RD guards and seem to be getting plausible heart rate data (it’s pretty close to what I get for running), and it doesn’t feel too weird (I barely notice it’s there) so I’m good. Anyo…
  • I’m guessing the hairdryer or boot dryer doesn’t get them up to the temp required for heat moulding?!

  • It may just be using muscles I haven’t used for some time, and getting tired, as it doesn’t seem to be affecting me off the skates. Stretching is one of those things I keep not getting around to doing, so will try that!
  • I’ve had a long outing (10k) with flat again. Definitely less tension as I don’t feel like I’ll lose it all the time! I’ve now possibly got a good deal on the 3x110 seba frames, which might also work well as I’ve got some pretty rough roads where I …
  • I've never owned a helmet before but have one on order now - mostly to set an example to my daughters. I'm also fully aware that if i don't there will be an I-told-you-so, but the childhood conditioning "helmets are dorky" is so strong...
  • Feels like cheating, but I’ll swap back to flat tomorrow and see how that goes again. I’ve done 25km on the rockered setup so far.
  • Would you suggest going back to flat frames then? Or will it get easier with practice? I don’t really want to keep both sets of frames, I’d rather just get familiar with one way of doing it!
  • I felt no different than I did 20 years ago, until I landed on my bum hard two days ago. Since then I’ve felt too old...
  • Definiteley increasing here - I've been out 4 times, and the last time I went out, I saw another skater!
  • Multiple threaded holes in the boot plates, slots in the frames
  • They're the standard frames the FR1 comes with:
  • Also forgot the rockered frames I got to see how that works for me. Apparently came off a pair of Igors, and in pretty good condition. They're on my FR1s now, don't know when I'll get a chance to have a go. If I like, I'll hopefully be able to sell …
  • I forgot I also bought some Triple8 RD wrist guards. My old wrist guards were huge half-fingered things (a bit like fake brown leather versions of Triple8’s hired hands, as partially visible in the K2 photo above). These are much easier to get on an…
  • I’ve managed 3 times this week, twice only small outings with my 9yo daughter, and a 10k today.
  • And @Schpanky I think my Fattys were pretty close to being one of the original design:
  • The smaller size turned up - yikes they’re tight!! I’m hoping they’ll get better as they wear in as I’m sure the next size up were too loose! Preferred the grey to these orange, and would have preferred white over both, but I would have had to pay a…
  • I’ve got pretty skinny forearms so will try wearing the watch above the wrist guards once some new triple8 RD guards arrive (my old wrist guards are huge and don’t fit well anymore). On a related subject, I have a Garmin watch and upload to Strava. …
  • Photos for reference
  • Well my FR1s turned up. I think I’m just the wrong shape for everything... My big toe feels cramped, but the cuff and ankle strap are too loose. I’m guessing I need at least a size smaller, and the toe thing will be down to breaking them in! I’ll ha…
  • Got a pair of FR1s coming tomorrow, hopefully they fit ok! Not been on skates for a decade and a half, and my old K2 Fatty Pros have fallen apart. Oh, and also new to the forum!
