My guess is that delrin parts are cheaper and are slick and wouldn't need lubrication. Pictures of what they looked like new are attached. The ones in the OP's picture look like they were buzzed out of aluminum rod with a ball mill.

Best wishes, Harold. I hope to be breathing on my own at 73, much less still on skates. Prayers going up for your health and well being. Don't be a stranger, come around now and then. Your stilt skates deserve a place in Lincoln!

"Center line" was the first mistake.

I've done it many times for a variety of reasons, the ultimate outcome being the ability to shift the plate a little. Much more that .125" either side is optimistic depending on the plate. Some plates come with slots already - Labeda Pro Line…

Not Shamans. Hyper T-Rex. And your cushions are screaming for mercy. 😯

@Muse, regarding your tube of NMB bearings, I would not expect the best one on the planet to spin in your hand. That's in no way an adequate test. Those bearings are greased and will last a lifetime, but even with a wheel on them, are not going to…

@Muse, I generally don't open up double metal shielded bearings. That's the point of the two shields. It does a yeoman's service keeping the dirt out, and keeps them from needing routine cleaning. If they get the the point where they need to be c…

@Muse... If they're double metal shielded, I generally don't have to clean them, but my skating style isn't hard on equipment. The double shielded and greased bearings take a long time to require maintenance. That's the point, and that's why I pr…

It's really easy to overthink bearings. Expensive too. Outdoor skating is hard on equipment. Dirt, water and vibration are the enemy and you can't do a thing about it. Good bet for survival outdoors is a good quality double-shelded and greased bea…
I used a Bosch router and pushed the wheels to 7500 RPM (I can show the math if you'd like, but this is a good high-side figure for speed skater bearing RPM)
I'd like to see that math. I did some of my own. I assumed a 59mm wheel …

Roll Line axles are really 7mm, not to be confused with the 9/32" that most of the rest use. That makes for a tighter fit, which is good, until you get a little fuzz on the axle, as you discovered. A little buff with some Scotchbrite will fix …

Hi Ron! How ya been?

Dear Lord don't take Ultimate IIIs to a skate park. And those are the wrong trucks. Nova trucks fit correctly, as do Nova pivot cups.

@PRFunky Don't get lulled into a false sense of security with your durometer. Without a calibration block and a test stand, you don't really know if you're "off by 2." There's also a lot more to testing than just grabbing a wheel and ja…

What he said.

That's a switch. It's usually you catching me on stuff. 🤣

"Boot is an old style Riedell 265 before they added the velcro strap." Boots are old 122's, which never had a strap.

Yeah, those aren't likely to do well outdoors at all. For one, I don't think they'll take the beating. And for outdoors, you really want a tall wheel - 70mm or so if you can fit them. And soft, like 80A or less. A small, harder wheel will stall …

I'm near Nashville, if that helps. With those skates, however, there's not a lot you can do. The mounting is dictated by the design of the skate, specifically the manner in which they attach the plate to make it removable. You can't move them, and…
